Nathaniel W. Stroud
Age: 34
Nickname: Nathan (only to his friends)
Occupation: Veternarian
Face Claim: Timothy Olyphant
Alias: Gfictional
APPEARANCE:
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 178 lbs.
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance: Except when he is working, Nathaniel is usually dressed in a proper suit with
tie and wearing a hat. One would think at first glance he was a banker rather than
a vet. He has a lighter colored mustache along with a bit of a goatee. He carries an
Army Colt Revolver on him most times.
PERSONALITY:
Nathaniel likes to consider himself a gentleman, a good citizen but don't cross him, he has a
good bit of a temper. One thing he cannot tolerate is the mistreatment of animals. He can be
a bit moody and very fond of sarcasm. As far as his profession, he takes it very seriously
and is indeed good at what he does. He believes respect is earned and has a fine reputation
among the townsfolk, ranchers, and farmers. He is both well spoken and well educated.
HISTORY:
Nathaniel was born to well to do parents in Boston, the oldest of three children, the other two sisters. His childhood was normal enough though he did prove to be a difficult teen. He was a good enough student to get into college but the sudden death of his father ended his upper education as the family could no longer afford it.
With the beginning of the Civil War, Nathaniel was swept up in the enthusiasm and joined the Army, ending up in the cavalry. During the war, he worked with the regiment's veternarian caring for the horses so important to the unit's success. He found his calling though at the close of the war he went back home to attempt to manage the family finances. He had never liked his father's business and sadly he failed much to his mother's chagrin. Upon bankruptcy, he departed on poor terms with the woman and never went back. Like so many others of that era, he decided to head out to the west and start a whole new life.
The past four years Nathaniel has taken up veterinary practice in Golden Valley. People trust him and he is lenient with those who can ill afford to pay. He's not looking to get rich, he is content with his life.
Though it is not talked about much, there was one incident in town two years ago. Nathaniel and a young rancher quarreled publicly and it ended in a gunduel. Nathaniel knew pistols from his military service and he killed the man with a single shot.
