Claire (Devereaux) Larson
Age: 30
Nickname: None
Occupation: Owner of Golden Valley Gazette
Face Claim: Leighton Meester
Alias: Sprout
APPEARANCE:
Gender: Female
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 120 lb.
Hair Color: Light Brown
Eye Color: Dak Brown
PERSONALITY:
Claire's typically friendly, outspoken, non-judgmental, and
flirtatious, but she can also be an opportunist when it suits
her purpose and not someone you want to cross. When it comes to
business, she's usually professional. Yes, there's a 'but' in
there.
HISTORY:
Claire was born a Devereaux in New Orleans to a working class
family, but that was never good enough for her. The last thing she
wanted was to work in her father's tavern. At fifteen, she met Gabriel
Davenport, a sailor several years older and was intimate with him in
exchange for a pretty piece of jewelry. After that, she continued to
sneak out to meet him. A couple of months later when she discovered
she was carrying his child, surprisingly he offered to marry her. It
wasn't long before he left to return to sea and she miscarried a short
time later. Before the war was over, Claire found herself a widow like so
many others.
Eventually, she met a wealthy politician from Houston , Texas, and became
his mistress before they married, moving with him to Texas , leaving both
parents and a younger brother behind. Thomas Larson was not only an abusive
husband, but involved in shady dealings. The cause of his death in 1873
remains a mystery. Claire inherited their home, property, and a substantial
amount of money after his demise.
Shortly before coming to Golden Valley, she'd rented a building in a small
town in Texas where she began printing the town's first newspaper. She had
prior experience as a reporter in Houston with the Telegraph and Texas Register.
Circumstances there were not ideal and she harbors secrets she'd rather not
think about, much less talk about. Fear of being accused of a crime she
didn't commit is the reason she crossed the country from Texas into Montana.
