Sarah "Misty" Jane Dalgleish
Age: 33
Nickname: Misty
Occupation: Doctor
Face Claim: Siobhan Marshall
Alias:Clare
APPEARANCE:
Gender: Female
Height: 5' 1"
Weight: 95 lbs
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Hazel
Appearance: Sarah is attractive without being a head turning beauty. Sarah is short and slender. She wears her hair long, only tying it up into a bun when she is working on a patient. Sarah wears practical, modest, if sometimes a little whimsical, clothing when in surgery with no makeup. She hasn't led much of a social life and so does not have much in the way of finer clothes or make-up.
PERSONALITY:
Sarah is a dreamer though not in the ambitious sense and has a strong romantic streak in her, though she has not yet found anyone, male or female, who has come close to even hinting that she might change her opinion that relationships and marriage are for others and not for herself. Some of this is a consequence of knowing how a husband would likely view her being a doctor. She is kind-hearted and generous to the point where she forgets about caring for herself or puts herself in danger. There is also something a little "otherworldly" about Sarah and many would perhaps call her "fey".
HISTORY:
The only child of a General Practitioner and a Socialite in Boston, Sarah grew up around medicine. If her mother had been more interested in her, Sarah might have been kept away but she learned early how to wrap both her governess and her father around her little finger; not through guile but through a sweet, innocent, naive charm that persisted into adulthood and continues to this day. Her mother was too busy with her friends, attending social functions and being the patron of a couple of charities; being seen to support the less fortunate while ignoring her daughter. The result was that Sarah was free to hang around the surgery and keep her father company in the evenings when her mother was out and he was not required to attend.
Her mother's passing left as little impression on Sarah as her life had done; the effect on her father was more noticeable. If not for the housekeeper and other house staff he would have gone down hill fairly rapidly; while the housekeeper, like everyone else, let Sarah do as she willed, she was sterner with Sarah's father. The main effect of the death of her mother was to allow her father to turn his indulgence of his daughter's interest in medicine into full support and then acquire the necessary patronage to allow her to attend medical school.
She joined her father in his practice when she completed her internship, gradually taking over more of the workload among the younger generation of the families that her father administered to. He retained the older generation and as they died or moved permanently to the New England countryside in their old age, his share of the practice dwindled and in parallel, so did his health.
Medicine was not Sarah's only interest. She has two others; music and drawing. One thing her mother did insist on was Sarah learning music; she couldn't convince her to play the piano beyond reasonable competency but she did introduce Sarah to the violin and this Sarah took to with much more enthusiasm. The drawing came from two things; observing the patients and often letting her imagination run free, resulting in both caricatures, and goblins, fairies and other creatures of the fey. The other was the study of anatomy and from this she learned to draw very accurately and quickly.
It was the death of Sarah's beloved father that caused her to move westwards, a move encouraged by the desertion of a significant proportion of the clientele of the practice, who could no longer hide behind the polite fiction that they were seeing Sarah's father when they were really being attended to by Sarah. It took her a little while to find a place where there was a vacancy and where desperation overrode enough of the townsfolk's reservations about having a female doctor to allow her to set up practice.
Sarah has been in Golden Valley for just over a month. She lives in a small suite of rooms above her surgery. Busy setting up her practice, she has had little time to get to know anyone on a more social basis.
